If you own a horse it’s a good idea to use a buddy system, especially in areas prone to natural disasters. Make sure you have a farm contact outside of potential evacuation zones that you can trailer into and leave your animal ahead of projected emergencies such as flooding or wild fires. Offer to be someone else’s buddy too. Be sure your local fire/emergency rescue has a list of emergency farm employee contact information, knows where water hookup, gas mains and electrical panels are located and has the keys to any fences that are locked during off hours.
